With many of the units standing empty, Brixton Village was looking a bit sad and decrepid. However, in 2009 a much needed change occured. Between the local community and the market owners many of the units were taken on by up and coming businesses, an initiative prompted by a six month rent free period. Within a year we had a complete face lift, a buzzing group of arcades full of arts, crafts and lots of food from all over the world. Restaurant critics are going mad over it. A much needed revitalised market has put Brixton back on the map.
